In July this year, I exhibited at a trade show for the first time. It wasn’t a surface pattern trade show, such as Surtex or Printsource, but an Interior design trade show. Why, may you ask? Many of my designs have been created with the interiors market in mind. The Decor and Design Show is held in Melbourne, Australia, so I was able to drive my car with my stall contents inside. Though it was a 3500km round trip!
It took 5 months of planning and preparations to get there, and I had no idea what to expect. It was one of those uncomfortable moments that need to be taken to move forward in my business.
How did it go? I have been asked this many times since and it is difficult to answer. What defines success? I had wonderful feedback. So many Interior Designers, Retailers and Students LOVED my work. Phew! And Yay! I made some great contacts in the industry and met some potential clients. I had a great collaboration with John Edward Halpin Upholstery, who used one of my designs in their presentation of green practices in reupholstery. They are also a great couple to meet. So knowledgeable in their industry and a pleasure to work with. John Edward Halpin Upholstery and Soft Furnishings
Did I sell or license all my collections and come back wealthy? 😂 I can dream 😉
It was a success. Over the next few months there will be changes on my website as I adapt it to more of an Interiors and Decor direction. However, there will always be other designs I create that don’t fit this market and I will have these available as well. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a collaboration, please email me.
